Promoting Energy Efficiency in the Indian Public Sector (PEPS-India)

Brief Description 

USEPA, USAID India, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA), Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD), and International Institute of Energy Conservation have established a partnership to promote energy efficiency in the public sector.

This project was started in February 2005 and is focused on the following activities:

  • Develop case studies of exemplary public sector low or no cost energy efficiency projects with documented energy savings.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Maharashtra Government in preparing a policy directive and specifications (coordinated with other central or state government organizations) for an energy-efficient lighting procurement initiative.
  • Provide technical assistance in identifying and recommending two pilot demonstration sites for capital improvement projects to the Maharashtra Government.
  • Help develop standardized energy audit commissioning (scope of work) and reporting procedures for commercial buildings.
  • Conduct training workshops for building engineers/facility managers on the topic of energy management in public buildings.
